About Us

Westside Elementary School is nestled in rural Vista Santa Rosa. We are home of the Dragons and serve a population of 500 students in grades TK-6. Our school community is one in which parents feel a sense of family and generations return to have their students educated here at Westside! Our families feel that Dragon Pride, year after year!

Westside Elementary School offers an all-day kindergarten program. A strong academic program is provided to every student in a nurturing environment that fosters student achievement.

Parents are encouraged to get involved in their child’s learning environment either by volunteering in the classroom, participating in a decision-making group, or simply attending school events.

School-to-home communication is provided in English and Spanish. Parents stay informed on upcoming events and school activities through a monthly Principal’s message on the schools website, ConnectEd, monthly calendars, school website, and monthly principal messages published on the school’s website. Contact the principal at (760) 399- 5171 for more information on how to become involved in your child’s learning environment.

Westside Elementary School’s discipline policies are based upon a schoolwide discipline plan and PBIS, which are used as guides to develop school expectations, behavior management programs, promote responsibility, promote respect, and minimize classroom disruptions. Teachers follow the PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) program to establish core values and expectations. This program provides tiered, progressive disciplinary interventions to assist students in making the right choice. The principal and assistant principal maintain high visibility to students throughout the day to support a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment.

Westside Elementary School implemented the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program during the 2015-16 school year. The AVID program teaches skills and behaviors for academic success, provides intensive support with tutorials and strong student/ teacher relationships, creates a positive peer group for students, and develops a sense of hope for personal achievement gained through hard work and determination. Westside Elementary School is focused on the organizational and note-taking skills for the second year of implementation of this program.

Westside Elementary School professional, highly qualified staff that provide additional services and support centered on the whole student academically, physically, and mentally. We are lucky to have a part time counselor on campus to support students in social skills, counseling needs and behavior interventions.

School administration and teaching staff place a high priority on providing adequate adult supervision on campus before, during, and after school. As students arrive on campus each morning, the following individuals are strategically assigned to designated entrance areas and the playground: the principal, assistant principal, playground supervisors and three classified staff. During recess, playground supervisors monitor student activity. Playground supervisors monitor lunch time activity in the cafeteria and on the playground. At the end of the day when students are dismissed, teachers, playground supervisors, and administrators monitor student behavior to ensure a safe and orderly departure.

Westside Elementary School is a closed campus. During school hours, all visitors must sign in at the school’s office and wear identification badges while on school grounds.

Westside School also has a very popular ASES (After-school Program). Through this program students can take classes on various subjects as well as receive additional support in writing and homework help. The most popular offering is the After-School Sports, where Westside has brought home many trophies! This program performs in various community events with the Drumline and with our cheerleaders.
